# Stripe as an MCP

> Let your AI agents use Stripe in real time through the Nekt MCP Gateway.

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform that lets businesses accept payments and manage revenue online. Through Nekt, your AI agents can read and write to the full Stripe API, search the official documentation, and help you plan your Stripe implementation.

| | Available |
| :- | :- |
| **Nekt Express** | Yes |
| **GCP** | Yes |
| **AWS** | Yes |

## Adding Stripe as an MCP

Before you start, make sure the [MCP Server](/mcp-server/setup) is set up. See [MCPs](/mcps/overview) for how MCPs work.

1. Go to **Activate → [MCPs](https://app.nekt.ai/mcps)**, click **New MCP** and choose **Stripe**.
2. **Name your MCP** and describe what it is used for. The agent reads the description to choose between MCPs of the same provider.
3. **Setup access**.

   1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.

   2. Navigate to the API keys section and create a restricted API key.

   3. Grant the key only the permissions you want the AI to have. Note that test-mode keys also work and will scope the connection to your test environment.

   * **API key** (Required): A Stripe secret or restricted API key. We strongly recommend a restricted key with only the permissions you want the AI to have — a read-only restricted key makes this a read-only connection, enforced by Stripe.
4. **Select tools**. Pick the tools your agents can use. See [Available tools](#available-tools) below.
5. Click **Save**. On Growth and Custom plans, choose who can use it; see [Access levels](/mcps/overview#access-levels).

## Example prompts

* "Search the Stripe documentation for how to implement webhook signatures in Node.js."
* "Look up the most recent invoices for the customer with the email address [billing@example.com](mailto:billing@example.com)."
* "Create a new payment intent for \$50 USD for the customer we just found."
* "Help me plan a Stripe integration for a subscription-based SaaS product."

## Available tools

Choose which of these tools your agents can use in **Select tools**.

### Read tools

## Troubleshooting

If the agent receives permission errors during a conversation, verify that your Stripe restricted API key has the necessary read or write permissions for the specific API resources the agent is trying to use. If your API key expires, is rolled, or is revoked, the MCP will show that it needs to reconnect. You can supply a new key by updating the credentials directly from the MCP's page.
