In this guide we’ll show you how to connect and run your first data source. Data sources can be anything from databases, files, spreadsheets, websites, or even third-party APIs. For simplicity, we’ll use a Google Sheets as our first data source. However, a similar process applies to any other data source from our list of 120+ available connectors.

Connecting a data source

In order to connect a data source, follow the steps below:
  1. Go to Sources and click the + Add Source button.
  2. Select the data source you want to connect (e.g. Google Sheets).
  3. Add the connection details.
  4. Configure how each stream should be mapped to a table in the Catalog - note each stream is a representation of a dataset from the data source.
  5. Define a trigger and description.
  6. Click the Save button.
Once the data source is created, you need to wait until the first extraction is completed to see the data in your Catalog. This may take a few minutes (or even hours), depending on the amount of data being extracted.

Running your data source

The creation of the data source does not trigger the extraction of the data. You need to trigger it manually or wait for it to run on a schedule.
Manual triggers don’t affect scheduled or event-based triggers.
Once the data source finishes the first extraction, the data will be available in the Catalog. Subsequent runs will extract fresh data from the source based on the trigger configuration (schedule, event-based or manual), updating the data in the Lakehouse according to the sync type (full sync, incremental or log-based). This ensures your data is always up-to-date and you always have the latest version of your data available for exploration and use.
